A medical doctor by profession and a specialist on gender and health, specifically sexual and reproductive health, Dr. Chhatra Amatya is one of the founding members and currently a board member of Sankalpa. She is also the trustee and vice-chairperson of Nagarik Aawaz. With over 35 years of experience in Nepalese women’s health issues through the Ministry of Health, she has achieved great heights throughout her career, both as a medical doctor, and as an activist. She is recipient of the World Health Organisation’s “Tobacco Free World Award” (1999) and has received a letter of appreciation by Safe Motherhood Network Federation (2011) for her significant contributions towards saving the lives of thousands of mothers and new born children. She has also been an active member of Safe Motherhood Network since its establishment in 1999.
