A well-known figure in women’s rights advocacy as well as the Nepalese constitution making process, Dr. Arzu Rana-Deuba was the founder of Rural Women’s Development and Unity Centre, a member organisation of Sankalpa. After the establishment of this NGO in 1995, she served as one of the founders of Sankalpa and has ever since remained an active adviser for the organisation. Deuba is also a former Constituent Assembly member and Member of Parliament. Since the completion of her PhD in Organisational Psychology from Punjab University in 1990, Deuba has actively been involved in various women’s issues and has established many organisations to help address the problems faced by women in Nepal.
